Colleges and universities struggling to find ways to pull together a comprehensive social media campaign should pay attention to Texas A&M University.
TAMU last week announced a social media scavenger hunt that utilizes YouTube, Twitter, Facebook and Foursquare. It’s a creative way to increase student engagement and give away some sweet swag in the process.
The video explains it well:
As colleges and universities continue grow their social media presence, I anticipate more campaigns like this one. It’s simple enough to duplicate with the right planning and personnel.
I only hope they let us know how it goes.
UPDATE:
Karine Joly posted a great interview with Diane C. McDonald, Director of Social Media at Texas A&M University, where they talk about the campaign the results it generated. It’s well worth the read.

Thanks for this. Gives me some ideas, although we haven’t quite got the money A&M does!
Glad I found your site!
I know a lot of colleges and universities are reluctant to become too involved with Four Square due to privacy issues (sharing the specific whereabouts of individual students campus). Do you know if there are any articles on “best practices” when it comes to schools and Four Square? While I think this idea is fun, I think it would also face a lot of hesitation from people who are unfamiliar with the app.
