Gowalla last week unveiled a version of its location-based service that allows users to check-in with Twitter, Facebook, Foursquare, and Tumbler — all through the Gowalla interface. No longer will I be checking into a location using more than one network.
Gowalla brings them all together in one and I like what they’ve done here. Thank you.
I’ve always been a big fan of Gowalla. I love the design and the ease of use. When Gowalla allowed users to upload and attach photos to a location, I thought it was a serious improvement. Multiple check-ins, however, takes the cake.
Never mind the additional features they threw in for good measure.
The latest version allows Gollawa users to capitalize on Facebook Deals and Foursquare specials without having to check-in through either. It also pulls check-ins from other services to show the latest activity of your friends. I expect it’s only a matter of time before the others allow the same.
I’m not crazy about some of the other features Gowalla included such as Notes, Highlights, or Bookmarks — these features fall into the “too much of a good thing” category and muddle the simplicity of the interface. But the multiple check-in feature was enough to win me over.
I applaud Gowalla’s effort to integrate with Facebook Places and Foursquare and now pose the question to both of them. What will you do to match it?
