Happy (belated) birthday, Twitter

Twitter turned four earlier this week and it just wouldn’t be my style to remember to wish Twitter a happy birthday on its actual birthday. So happy birthday, Twitter. Thanks to Andrew Careaga for digging up this gem from March 2007:

My personal Twitter timeline:

• October 7, 2008: After pitching the idea to my bosses that Webster University should have a Twitter account, they respond “Sure, go for it. But what’s Twitter?” The first Webster tweet goes out.

• May 11, 2009: Set up my personal Twitter account, really just to make sure I’m using the University account correctly.

• September 18, 2009: Welcome fellow St. Louis native and Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey to campus and spend the day hanging out with him and his family. Very cool.

• October 4, 2009: Realizing I’m at a conference (HighEdWeb2009) where I’d be in the minority if I wasn’t tweeting, I send out the first tweets from my personal account.

• October 6, 2009: Witness the incredible power of the Twitter backchannel first hand when HighEdWeb conference goes take to Twitter to vent frustration over an ill-prepared speaker. Recapped nicely in the Great Keynote Meltdown of 2009.
